Talk abstract:
Ticks are obligate blood-feeding arthropods that can transmit their microbes to us during feeding. Our lab is interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms of this process. We recently found that an antimicrobial factor encoded by ticks plays a key role in protecting ticks against their own microbial pathogens, which provided new insights into the natural threats faced by ticks and how they have evolved to defend against these.
