Welcome to the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology
Great to have you join us! People like you, at all stages of their careers and from all over the world, are the lifeblood of MPIIB. We are happy to have you with us.
Regardless of whether you are coming from near or far, you will need to settle into Berlin and take care of a few things—finding an apartment, registering in Berlin, and getting an account at a German bank. This page is intended to help you get started, so that you can dedicate yourself to your research as quickly as possible. You will find information about the necessary tasks you need to do in order to be able to fully concentrate on your life in Berlin and the work at our Institute. Much of the information on these pages is relevant for employees coming from abroad. For colleagues who have already worked or studied in Germany, it is still worthwhile to browse through the pages.
We wish you a good arrival in Berlin and an exciting time at Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology.

Where to stay in the first days or weeks
The Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology has its own guest house providing temporary accommodation. You may require this for the first days or weeks which will give you time to look for a permanent place to live (see housing). You can contact us if you require a room or an apartment and we will make reservations for you. Please bear in mind that the guest house is very popular so inform us as soon as possible and before you travel to Berlin. Otherwise it may already be fully booked. Information on apartments in the guesthouse of the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology can be found here.
