Talk abstract:
Intrinsic and extrinsic stresses experienced during development exert many long-term effects upon health and disease, yet the mechanism is not fully elucidated. In my laboratory, we use Drosophila to understand how developmental diet and other factors influence adult fitness and lifespan. We found that early life exposure to an oxidant extends lifespan through remodelling of gut microbiota. We also found that mild activation of innate immunity in larva persistently alters gut microbiome and shortens fly lifespan. In this talk, I would like to discuss how gut microbial species can regulate host immunity and purine metabolism that impacts organismal healthspan.
