Long Night of the Sciences at the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology
On July 2, the Long Night of the Sciences will take place at the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology. We invite you to take a look behind the scenes of the Institute with a diverse program: laboratory tours, hands-on stands and much more.
The countdown for the Long Night of Science is on: In less than two weeks, all those hungry for knowledge in Berlin and Potsdam can enjoy spectacular experiments, exciting lectures, science shows and guided tours. The Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology will open its doors as well―you can find our program on the LNDW website, where you can search specifically for events of the Institute under "more filters". Our institute is located in the same building as the German Rheumatism Research Center, which also participates in LNDW with many tours, booths and lectures.
Tickets can also be purchased directly via the LNDW website―e.g. single and family tickets or, new this year, the five-friends ticket.
Our program:
The main event of the evening is the joint Science Slam with the German Rheumatism Research Center: "Of Men and Microbes". Five young scientists, two institutes, one trophy! You, the audience, can decide who will hold the coveted trophy for the best Science Slam!
Mosquitoes in the middle of Berlin? Our malaria researchers will show you the mosquito husbandry of our Institute in the guided tour "the tropical life of mosquitoes". In the lecture "Mosquitoes and Math", bioinformatician Paola Carrillo-Bustamante will explain how she uses theoretical biology to research malaria transmission. More information about malaria and interactive games will be available at our malaria information booth.
We also open the doors of our zebrafish facility―here you can find out how our researchers study tuberculosis in zebrafish. You can learn about the technical side of our research during the "Zoom-In" tour through our microscopy unit―from fluorescence microscopy to scanning and transmission electron microscopy to live cell imaging.
For little researchers: At our hands-on booth you can discover how scientists work at the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology, try out research methods yourself and build your own folding microscope.

About the Long Night of the Sciences Berlin | Potsdam
The Long Night of the Sciences (LNDW) has been held annually since 2001 (with the exception of 2020 and 2021). Between 5 p.m. and midnight, visitors can expect more than 1,400 program points. The Long Night of the Sciences is largely organized and financed by the participating scientific institutions themselves.
