Talk abstract:

The adaptive immune system must meet the challenge of a constantly changing pool of both dangerous, neutral and beneficial microbes. Building on known aspects of immune function to frame core trade-offs in immune system processes opens a window onto the drivers of differences between immune function in males and females, through to determinants of critical window for immune development during ontogeny, and interactions with our microbiome over ecological and evolutionary time-frames.
