Abstract:
How can data science help explain the role of pathogen genomics and non-genetic risk factors in poor infection outcomes? In this talk I will discuss within-host studies and genome-wide association studies that reveal new evolutionary and genetic mechanisms underlying Staphylococcus aureus pathogenesis, and a new exposome-wide association study approach to investigating non-genetic risk factors for COVID-19 infection in the UK Biobank.
